....exchange links!?

Now I've virtually finished with the style of my site (its basic, I know!) & played around with skalinks, nows the time to start building up the directory :)

So what methods have worked best for you?

I've been adding sites myself, and inputting their email address in so they get the notifications....but I think it will be better to email other websites, introduce my site & then say they can add a free link.

What method has worked best for you guys :)

What worked for me was introducing my site by email, _politely_ ask for link exchange explaining that this would help both sites benefit and tell them that I already added their link or I would add their link if they put mine.

Remember, the key is that you need to exchange links with sites of your theme only. Having another dmoz on a site about dogs is a bad idea.

For example, your site is about a real estate software. The best I could come up with would be having categories for real estate sites and other categories for software sites. They all would be relevant and you can find plenty of good sites to exchange links with.

Max is correct. For my site I created a short, 2 paragraph introduction to myself and what my site was about, asked if they would trade links, I made it generic and then emailed every webmaster I could find their email address on. Plan on spending days doing this. As long as you don't Spam, have a nice looking website, the majority will do it. If you don't have many links, spend some time adding links of sites you know won't respond. Like my game site, I knew Nintendo and Playstion wouldn't respond.

True, don't expect immediate results, Nintendo won't answer. So, you need to start out with site of your scale, and pay attention if they have on-site facilities for link exchange. This is probably the factor if they are open to exhange links.

Also, when you're composing emails, pay attention to the fact that an average webmaster receives tons of junky link exchange requests by email, so it's your task to convince your opponent to exchange links with you.

Regards, and share your results
