I used to use FreeGlobes and switched to SkaLinks. I have some suggestions based on using several different link directory softwares:

* A working Logout for admin

* Number of links in subcategories & categories (# links)

* Number of clicks on links (# clicks)

* Category Avatars (50x50px) [optional: if no avatar, it uses a default folder image.]
Note: category avatars are hotlinked and not stored on the server.

* Link Avatars (100x90px) [optional: if no avatar, it gets a screenshot from ALEXA.]
Note: link avatars are hotlinked and not stored on the server.
SEE: Script FreeGlobes for example.

* User rates links
either
1-5 scale using a starring system
or
Adding a single vote using a counting system
SEE: Script FreeGlobes for example.

* New Link STAR. Links less than 72 hours old get stared or get a little NEW! graphic next to them.

* Admin Ranks Links
> Featured Link (puts a little starcrest and changes link color)
> Sponsored Link (Puts a little blinking strobe and changes link color)
> Editors Pick (puts a little thumbs up and changes link color)
> Award Winner (puts a little tropy pic and changes link color)
Note: graphics would be in theme
Note: colors of links defined in admin panel

* Statistical Pages
> Most Clicked
> Highest User Ranking
> All Featured Links
> All Sponsored Links
> All Editors Picks
> All Awards
> Newly Submitted
etc etc

* Terms and Conditions Page w/ I agree

* RSS FEED and subscriptions

* Link Author Links should NOT go to peoples email. Email harvesting software is going to have a BALL. It is better if this information is kept secret. Make a PHP email form whereby the Link Authors name is clicked and it will silently send a message (admin only) and for users, no link.

* CONTACT US! A php form which emails the administrators. Make it have:
NAME
SUBJECT
MESSAGE
SUBMIT

^^^ You can make that even COOLER by making a back end in the admin
so the email it's sent to can be modified and the subject can be
a drop down box with a list of subjects :)

ALSO: I see people want to go the direction of phplinks script but also check out Freeglobes as a good source of features. I liked it except they sort of forced people to pay them via their allopass system. I would have donated a sum to assist in the project, I rather that be an option than forced.
