hi, can u tell me hot to modify the index.tpl file to insert two column ( one on the left and one on the right ) in the index.php page?

You do not have to edit anything as these setting controls are available in admin.
login to admin, click on settings, click on display and change Number of categories columns from 3 to 2 Don't forget to save changes.

no, i don't need to put my category in 2 column, but i need this 2 column to put the banners of my sponsor, so i think i had to modify the template file index.tpl
