I installed the 1.5 script and everything seems ok except there was no compile or cache directory. I added them myself and seemed ok, but i am getting no directory listings and get a 404 error when i goto my main page.

ok in the zip file you downloaded there should have been 8 directories:

admin
cache
compile
detailed
install
SkaLinks_include
smarty
templates

you should have uploaded everything in the zip file to your server then ran the install script http://yoursite/skalinks/install/install.php

if this is what you did what errors did you receive during install?

all i got was
admin
detailed
install
skalinks_include
smarty
templates
The other 2 are not there, and i downloaded it twice to make sure, but they are not there.

Also notice there is no install/install.php only install/index.php

I have just downloaded again, the 2 extra folders are there now, but empty(is that right)
I added them myself with nothing in them, but problem still.

sorry bud my mistake should have been install/index.php

yes the compile and cache folders are empty.

I'm assuming you installed it without any errors, can you login into admin?

is your directory link looking for a html file or php

Yes, no problems installing, i can login to admin, but the directory link, just goes to skalinks/ and i presume it would look for index.php but i get a 404 error.
You can see it at www.sungolfvillas.com/skalinks/ and admin with the password

Funny just checked it again and it seems to be working ok now.

Yeah eveything seems fine, probably your host server took a little time to update its self, ok now change the admin password to one of your own THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
