LOL...
I thought I was so smart, I thought I had figured out that I could use SkaLinks on 2 seperate domains (in 2 seperate hosting accounts on the same server) while only using one database. But, it doesn't seem to work out the way I had planned. :D
So, I had setup http://dir.w3host.info and was really pleased. But I kept thinking that if header.php contains all the configuration information, and I kept the same ad image names on each server in the same location, I can actually run another directory from a different domain using the same database. As I only have one database left from my allotment at F1H.net (as I am using quite a few on other domains in that account), I thought I'd give it a try.
Well, I copied all of the files to a new directory on my HD (for my new directory domain), I uploaded all of the files, I made and uploaded a new banner over the old one, I chmodded all the files, and I thought it was going to work.
I can login fine, if I am logged in at one dir, I am logged in at another. I can use the control panel and approve links. Things looked good.
Then, I entered the directory....
http://dir.httpmaster.com looked good. But then I entered further in by entering a category...
http://dir.httpmaster.com/website-promotion/index.html shows information from the old directory...
1) The page title of the old directory.
2) The long full name of the website I copied the files from.
3) The old W3Host.Info Brand from the old directory.
So, I actually think that this works, a little. I was thinking that with a little tweaking it might work just fine.
Unfortunately, once I click on a subcategory, there is alot more that reverts back to the old directory. Now, http://dir.w3host.info/web-development/website-scripts/link-dirs/index .html shows the old banner, as well. Looking at this for a long time, I realize that by clicking on the "Link Exchange & Directory Scripts" subcategory in my httpmaster site, I wound up in the right subcategory, but in the W3Host.Info directory. ;)
OK, now, I have not yet given up, but I think that this might have to with either the cache, or simply a programming quirk.
I mean, the directory works fine as long as it is just handling one installation. Perhaps you wonder why I would want it to power two directories (or more) from one database? That, my freind, is a way I can get more people to leave their link. Because leasving it at one directory leaves it at two (or more) so that when they visit a site on my network, they are getting more links than one.
But, I don't know how easy this would be to do. I mean, if it's not a cahe setting, you would probably have to redo some programming to pull it off so that things would work correctly on both sites. And since I am probably the only one wanting to pull this off, I should pay you for making it happen.
So, what do you think it would cost? -Doug
