Hi,

I'm not clear from your instructions if the files are to be uploaded to the main directory or a created directory such as "linkmgr" or something like that.

It appeared to me that you are asking to upload to a created directory IN the root directory.

i.e. user/public_html/linkmgr/

When I uploaded all the files to that directory (linkmgr as above), I could not chmod the directory "linkmgr" or the other folders, "cache" and compile.

Could you please clarify this for me?

Thank you,

Dale

Well, it looks like I'm going to answer my own post. I don't know why, but I came back to the computer a half hour later or so, and I could chmod those three folders (dir. folder plus cache and compile). I'm thinking that I wasn't done uploading all the files and just didn't notice.

Everything in the control panel seems to work okay, but I'm still a little puzzled. When I click on Directory, Find URL, or Directory Tree (top links in Stalinks Control Panel, I get an "Internal Server Error."

And also, I'm a little puzzled as to which files are shown to a visitor who wants to add a URL to my link pages through your system. I'm not real familiar with php so I'm wondering if I'm just missing something.

I uploaded ALL of the files from your script to the directory folder (i.e. user/public_html/linkdirectory/ . Hopefully this is correct.

What can I type into the browser to bring up my linking directory?

Thank you,

Clarification on above post.

In rereading my posts, I realized that I used two different sample destination folders. For anyone reviewing this with an offer to help, please understand that these are not real folders, just made up for purposes of clarification. Both of them, "linkdirectory" and "linkmgr" would be the destination folder UNDER "public_html" into which all of the SkaLinks files would be uploaded.

Sorry for any confusion.

Talking to yourself huh ;)

You can put skalinks in the root directory (as I have done) or inits own folder, as you say "linkdirectory" or whatever you want.

Thanks,

But can you tell me what is the URL of the link page that a visitor will see? I got the chmods done, and I "think" I've installed it correctly, so now I'm wondering what I do next. Where do I find the page that the visitor will see?

(Somebody save me from a one-sided conversation!!)

Thanks,

Dale

Okay, so I do this:

http://mysite.com/StalinkFolder/

And it opens my control panel. The blue bar with the menu options (letter templates, settings, editors, etc.) These should not be exposed to visitors. The installation was very straight forward -- pretty diffcult to screw up, really.

Sorry for my other post. I must have been posting while you were answering. I was getting very frustrated after a day of trying to get this done and no response by either forum or email.

Hi Dale,

Dont worry about the member login, thats just your hosts 404 page not found page.

Have you set the config up correctly on install? Coz if all your files are in the stalinkfolder, then everything should be fine...providing youve set up your database correctly!!

Post a screen dumpof your FTP sowe can seeif you've uploaded correctly :)

Holy cow, there really are people on here who respond! I had about given up. I deleted everything and started over. Everything went pretty smoothly, and I think I'm on track.

But I'm still stumped on this url issue. See, I've already got a link script in place where a visitor can add their URL, which gets sent to me via email, and then I have to add them by hand. So I will be adding a redirect for the current "add link" page to the new StaLinks page.

But I STILL can't figure out what link I need to send my visitors to add a link to my site. When I put an "Add Your URL" link on my site, what is the URL to which I will send them?

Is it mysite.com/StaLinksDir/ ??

Or is it mysite.com/StaLinksDir/add_url.php ??

OR???????

This is the answer I've been trying to get from you folks, and I don't know how to ask it any differently. I've asked it on this forum, emails to StaLinks, and no one seems to know what I'm asking. I've got to put a link to the "add link" page. What is that? I don't understand php, so maybe that's why I'm not getting something that is totally obvious to you folks.

I apologize if I got grumpy. I'm frustrated that I can't seem to find the right way to ask this question. I realize that a free script like this isn't going to have the same kind of support that a paid version would. The help I've seen given on the forum is excellent. It seems that I happened on a stretch when people had other things going on.

Oh, and to Admin, yes, I've followed it as best I could.

Thanks,

Dale

Dale,

Check out the Skalinks demo, it shows you how it should function & you would have seen that to add a link its:

mysite.com/SkaLinksDir/add_url.php

:)
