I carefully followed all the instructions, read this forum, etc. etc., logged into Control Panel etc., and everything seems accessible, but as soon as I click on Directory or Add URL etc. I get a server error and nothing. It says it cannot produce the page output. But I did not get any error logs on the server. Suggestions?

Okay, managed to figure it out. Read through some of these forum topics and thought I'd try changing the chmod to 755 on some of the directories. Started with the main one and it already worked. When I was installing, it seemed to force me to set the $_dir_root director as the same one where I copied the scripts (correct path version of $_url_root) – which seems odd because the category folders now get polluted among the script folders. Furthermore, the recent scripts I downloaded from your web didn't even have an .htaccess file. Not sure if it was necessary but I accidentally stumbled on one I had from a previous download a few months ago. Anyway, everything seems to work now, and my next project will try to incorporate Captcha. I have a script one developer made for me for my php contact form and seems to block hacker attacks. If anyone is getting spammed, please email me to kenax@kenax.net to see if it would work.
